Risk Assessment and Crisis Management in Short-Term Missions — Keeping Your Short-Term Teams Safe in a Risky World 

PLEnaRY SPEAKERS

Bob KlamserBob Klamser (see Bob’s bio) of Crisis Consulting International (C.C.I.) will serve as our primary STMLC 2008 plenary speaker. C.C.I. provides emergency or crisis assistance to international Christian organizations encountering terrorist threats and other emergencies. C.C.I. has been involved in these events worldwide, successfully negotiating the release of a number of missionary hostages. Their crisis management capability and experience extends well beyond hostage or terrorist events, ranging from resolving a bombing campaign directed toward a mission facility to handling extortion demands levied against mission personnel. Bob’s main sessions will cover:

  • What Is Risk Assessment, and Why Should I Do It?

  • How Much Risk Is Too Much?

  • It's Your Crisis. Manage It!

Eric IversonEric Iverson is a twenty-two year urban youth ministry veteran and a product of urban youth ministry. Eric is currently serving as the Multicultural Integrity Director for the short-term youth mission organization, YouthWorks. Eric consults, teaches, and trains nationally around issues of poverty, race, justice, and youth ministry. His focuses are to assist YouthWorks and other short-term organizations to 1) do justice among and for the people they serve and 2) avoid the potential for a “drive-by” missions’ mentality among Christians today. Eric's large group is titled:

David ArmstrongDavid Armstrong spent 19 years with OC International in Guatemala, Colombia, and Costa Rica. His time living and ministering in other cultures, training youth and lay leaders, and working with pastors provides a valuable backlog of experience to draw from in his ministry at Mission Data International (M-DAT), where he helps raise up and prepare the next generation of missionaries. Much of David's effort is currently providing opportunities and resources through the nationally known web site, www.ShortTermMissions.com.
