Katrina-Hit Gulf Coast Restoration Teams

2006

Eight months after Katrina hit, STEM’s Gulf Coast Teams worked with a church partner and the City Council in Slidell, Louisiana. The Slidell teams cleaned up debris, prepared homes for rebuilding, and shared the hope of Jesus with those still devastated by their losses.

Many other Katrina-hit communities continue to welcome church-based teams to join the huge cleanup operation in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. STEM has expanded our ministry partnerships into several Mississippi and Louisiana ccommunities. Just tell us your team’s gifts and skills and we’ll match you up with suitable opportunities. These evangelistic clean-up/relief teams will require individuals willing to serve, work hard, and to be flexible. You will be able to pray and share your faith with many whose lives have been devastated, while you work to clean up and rebuild communities. You can join an existing team or start your own team with 12 people or more, up to a maximum team size of 30.

The Motivation

  • As those who know and love Jesus Christ, we want to share His compassion and comfort with others

The Big Picture

  • Many Gulf Coast hurricane victims remain deeply discouraged, even though it's been more than a year since the hurricane
  • Tons of debris still covers some yards and parks
  • People still struggle emotionally to process their losses

The Opportunity

Teams of volunteers of all ages are still needed during 2007!

  • Skilled construction workers are especially needed as homeowners move
from the cleanup to the rebuilding phase
  • Unskilled volunteers can offer many kinds of practical help in these communities
  • You and your team can bring fresh energy to local ministries experiencing burnout after many months of helping others
  • You and your team bring hope and encouragement in Jesus’ name to a very needy part of our country
