Answered prayer from an unexpected direction …
Two foreign families had been living there for several years sharing the gospel — with no visible results. The previous Share team joined in the efforts and had a significant prayer time overlooking the provincial capital city. From that overlook they could count more than 50 mosques; they called strongly on the Lord to send light and life to this place. They never would have anticipated how He would answer this prayer.
When our field host took us (Team #610S) to the same city to pray — we were able to rejoice. Believers from a large radical Muslim country neighboring to the East have been pursued and persecuted to the point where they are fleeing for their lives. Crossing the border into Turkey as refugees, amazingly, the non-Christian powers-that-be have sent a group of 30 foreign believers to live in this city while they seek refugee status in a western country. Praise God for answered prayer! Our team was able to meet two of the leaders of this group and hear first hand, not only what is happening with believers in their country, but also how God is using these “refugees” in Turkey.
While we were sobered at the realities these believers have faced for their faith, God’s hand in it all encouraged the team as they daily prayerwalked other cities and villages and provided community activities for children. The Lord opened many opportunities to share the love and light of Jesus and to minister to our precious hosts and their families.
